Professionals required to report include the following:
Licensed physicians
Residents or interns
Law enforcement officers or judges
Registered nurses or visiting nurses
School employees
Social workers acting in their official capacity
Members of the clergy
When is a report required?

A mandated reporter who knows or has reasonable suspicion that a child is abused or neglected shall report the matter immediately.
What information should the report include?
Citation: Ann. Stat. § 32A-4-3(B)
Written report must contain:
Names and addresses of the child and the child’s parents, guardian, or custodian
Age of the child
Nature and extent of the child’s injuries, including evidence of previous injuries
Other information that may be helpful in establishing the cause of injuries and the identity of the person responsible for the injuries
Written report shall be submitted on a standardized form agreed to by the law enforcement agency and the department.
Failure to report
Citation: Ann. Stat. § 32A-4-3(F)
Any person who violates the provisions of this section pertaining to the duty to report is guilty of a misdemeanor and shall be sentenced pursuant to § 31-19-1.
Upon conviction, the person shall be imprisoned in the county jail for a definite term that is less than 1 year, be fined not more than $1,000, or both at the discretion of the judge.
