How to Report

New Hampshire (NH)

Who is required to report?

Citation: Rev. Stat. § 169-C:29

The following professionals are required to report:

  • Physicians, surgeons, county medical examiners, psychiatrists, residents, interns, dentists, osteopaths, optometrists, chiropractors, nurses, hospital personnel, or Christian Science practitioners
  • Teachers, school officials, nurses, or counselors
  • Daycare workers or any other child or foster care workers
  • Social workers
  • Psychologists or therapists
  • Priests, ministers, or rabbis
  • Law enforcement officials

When is a report required?

A mandated reporter shall immediately make an oral report to the Department of Health and Human Services by telephone or otherwise, followed within 48 hours by a written report, if requested by the department.

What information should the report include?

Report shall, if known, contain:

  • The name and address of the child
  • The name and address of the person responsible for the child’s welfare
  • Specific information indicating neglect or the nature and extent of the child’s injuries, including any evidence of previous injuries
  • The identity of the person(s) suspected of being responsible for the abuse or neglect
  • Any other information that may be helpful in establishing abuse or neglect or that may be required by the NH DHHS

Failure to report

Anyone who knowingly violates any provision of the reporting laws shall be guilty of a misdemeanor.
